Coming Along

The Chronicles are moving forward.

That is saying a lot, considering the complications that arose when I changed the first part of the second book to mesh with the ending of A Queen Reborn. While that just seems like a logical beginning to a sequel, the original start to the second book took place months after A.Q.R. ended, now it takes place about a month earlier.

Why the change? Well, a few years ago I was working on a NaNoWriMo project online, sharing every ugly sentence of a rapidly-written, unedited novel. Fortunately a very wise woman was reading it and suggested I open the story with something exciting happening. Remembering her words, I took them to heart and figured that would work really well for the sequel if I took it back to a dramatic moment in the first one, but write it from the "other side" of that moment.

It worked, but it meant a lot of rewriting and some big changes in the whys and wherefores of the next part of the story. But the changes make sense and have allowed the characters to deepen and grow more "colorful," even the ones who only had bit parts in A Queen Reborn.

I can't wait for you to meet them.

  1. Oh, I like the idea of revisiting something from the first book from a different point of view. I've been experimenting with POV, too - for ages I've preferred a single POV for the entire book, but now I'm keen to try a book with multiple viewpoints.

I cracked open your book the other day, and I have a question for you: your copyright info is under your pseudonym - did you receive any advice about that? I've seen all sorts of variations: pen name on the cover with copyright under real name or under a business name or using initials... it's all so confusing.

  2. I've always liked books that go from one POV to another so you can get a bigger "flavor" of the story, although that doesn't work with mysteries because you'd get to the ending before the detective! :)

As for the copyright... you know, I didn't even give it any thought, although the publisher knows my real name, so I guess if it became an issue, I'd have it on record under both names. Hm... I've never actually paid any attention to that because I don't always think about whether or not the author is using a pseudonym or not. Now, I'm always going to look. :)

  3. Yeah--I have one of those in my future... I wrote a trilogy at one poin and have redone the first completely... which really has HUGE implications for both of the other two, but I haven't found the guts to face them yet... Good luck working through yours!

  4. GOOD ON YOU. I am so thrilled it is going well.

I don't actually know about the copyright either but it certainly is something to consider. There's so much to cover in publishing, isn't there?
